Avatar Tokens are too hard to come by. You'll be lucky to get them; Or you have to wait until the 1st of the month to get a few. You should be able to purchase them with Coins.

  you earn them at cove, and other places with seahorses. Also when you do challenges. But if you try to purchase, lets say , an outfit, and you don't have enough avatar tokens, it will tell you how many gems you need to finish the purchase.  And the ones you "win" at the beginning of the month, are based on what you spent using them the previous month. (kind of like a payback)
